Home composting is the natural breakdown of biodegradable materials. It is free of unpleasant odors and produces an organic “soil improver” that adds vital nutrients and organic matter to your garden or vegetable patch.
Families who would like to receive a compost bin on free loan can do so by submitting a specific declaration form to ESA.
Home composting mimics nature’s own recycling process. It allows you to break down organic matter (like dry leaves, twigs, and grass) in a controlled and faster way right in your own garden, returning nutrients back to the earth.
This decomposition takes place inside specialized bins called composters. In a short time, your household organic waste (food scraps, leaves, grass, etc.) is transformed into a nutrient-rich soil known as compost.
It is estimated that organic matter makes up about 30% of a typical family’s daily waste. This means nearly a third of your trash can be removed from the standard waste cycle and turned into something valuable for your garden’s health.
Recycling organic waste is a win-win: it’s better for the environment (fewer landfills) and better for you (it lowers your TARI tax bill).
