Organic Waste
Organic waste includes raw or cooked food scraps (plant or animal-based) and small amounts of garden waste (like dead flowers).
Please use only biodegradable/compostable bags. Tie them securely and place them inside the brown bin provided.
This waste is turned into high-quality fertilizer (compost).
Please avoid large bones or seashells; while they aren’t “toxic,” they don’t break down fast enough for the composting process.
Put these in:
- Fruit and vegetable scraps
- Cooked or raw food leftovers
- Small pieces of meat and fish
- Spoiled or expired food
- Eggshells and small bones
- Cut flowers and leaves (small amounts)
- Nut shells
Keep these out:
- Large bones and seashells/mussel shells
- Plastic and clean paper
- Disposable plates and cups
- Large branches, soil, and sand
- Metals
- Synthetic pet litter
- Hot ashes
