Literno Waste Treatment Facility

The Literno facility (located in Campo nell’Elba) consists of a landfill and a COMIECO platform for processing paper and cardboard packaging. You can reach the site via the provincial road between Portoferraio and Campo nell’Elba. Take the turnoff toward Colle Reciso (an old military road); the entrance gate is on the right, about 600-700 meters from the junction.

Landfill

The landfill is divided into two distinct sections:

• Section A: Permanently closed and certified in 2000, before ESA took over management.
• Section B: Divided into two lots. Lot B1 reached full capacity in 2003, while Lot B2 has not yet been built.

The landfill is currently not accepting waste and is in its “aftercare” (post-closure) phase, pending future developments or the completion of Lot B2.

COMIECO Platform (Paper & Cardboard)

Since July 2015, our platform has been part of the COMIECO consortium. This allows us to efficiently recover and recycle all paper and cardboard waste collected from the island’s residents and businesses. By choosing this path, we reduce costs for the local community and support environmental sustainability through waste reduction and energy efficiency.
